Bartolo Music

Music by Marc Bartolo

Stories told through music.

Songs written from emotion, experience and a fascination with people, places and the world around us.

I’m Marc Bartolo, a Canadian-born photographer and songwriter now based in Germany.

I’ve spent much of my life telling stories through images. Music gives me another way to tell them — through rhythm, atmosphere, words and sound.

My music draws heavily from world music, blending influences, instruments and rhythms from different cultures with pop, blues and contemporary sounds.

A new Bartolo track every two weeks.

FEATURED SONG

Planes Fall from the Sky

The story behind the song

Planes Fall from the Sky began as a reaction to the endless political noise filling social media — the arguments, the anger, the absurdity and the feeling that the world has somehow lost its way.
I started wondering how we can watch corruption, division and destructive leadership unfold around us and simply keep going. The song became my way of saying : I have something to say too.
Musically, it mixes Afro World Pop and Delta Blues with African percussion, Asian and Middle Eastern instruments, deep bass and soulful guitars. The result is energetic, rhythmic and deliberately at odds with the uneasy world behind the lyrics.

Listen to the song. See where it takes you.
Then ask yourself why.

THE MUSIC

World music isn't a new direction for me. It's been part of my musical life for decades.

Back in the 1980s, my main band, Of Tribal Descent, was already bringing world-music influences into our songs, rhythms and sound. That fascination never left me.

Today, Bartolo brings those influences together with pop, blues and contemporary sounds — drawing on rhythms, instruments and musical ideas from different parts of the world.

But for me, music is ultimately about people and stories. I don't want to tell you what to think. I want to give you something to listen to, something to feel, and perhaps something to question.

The music is the doorway.
Where it takes you is up to you.

SONGS FOR ARTISTS

Songs written for other voices.

Some songs begin as my own musical creations. Others are written with the possibility that the right artist may take them somewhere I can't.

Selected songs are available for recording, adaptation and artist collaboration.

FROM THEN TO NOW

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I studied music, played in bands and spent years performing, writing and creating before photography became my profession and took me in another creative direction.

Photography became my way of telling stories through images. Music remained another way of seeing — a way of finding images, people and stories in sound.

Now I'm making music again. Different time. Different tools.

Same fascination with people, stories, sound and the world around me.
